I just talked to Andy at Yaesu about this, which happened to me last
weekend (sometimes) when I would rotate the control quickly. He says it
most likely is a problem with the optical encoder behind the clarifier
knob, and the fix would be to replace the encoder, which in turn requires
removing the front panel. Meself, I think I'll use the clear button.
By the way, he also said that Yaesu's policy is to work on radios that are
still under warranty in front of those that are not. He says that the wait
time for in-warranty service is about 2 weeks.
