[1000mp] Clarifier Fix?

I suspect this has been discussed in the past, but my searches have turned 
up nothing.

Has Yaesu ever come clean and admitted they really screwed up the (RIT) 
Clarifier tuning control?  Is there a fix for its non-linearity/jumpiness?  
(FYI, the FT-1000D is butter smooth in comparison)

During ARRL CW, on a couple of occasions, I glanced at the display and was 
shocked to see that my offset was a full Khz off my run freq.  I've tried 
changing the clarifier step size in the menu settings without noticeable 
improvement in its tendency to jump.
