Maybe it's not such a good idea to send out a heavy technical question to
the group on Christmas Eve, because the lack of response was pretty
surprising. :) So I'll just send it out again, hoping to catch a
sympathetic ear somewhere.

--------------------
Here's a holiday question for the group.
A few days ago I incorporated the W8JI key-click mod into my MP. I'm
generally happy with the results, and think it did a pretty good job of
taming the clicks. I have before/after Tx output waveform photos for
anybody who just HAS to have them.
So here's the question. The waveform-softening only works on dots (or
dashes) 2-N, but not 1. So, if I send an "E" it's clicky. If I send an
"I"
the first dit is clicky, and the second one is nice. An "S" has a clicky
dit, followed by two nice dits. You get the picture. But I haven't
figured
out why. I use an external keyer, and operate the MP in QSK break-in mode.
So how does the MP know the difference between a first dit and a second
dit?
It didn't seem to matter too much what speed my keyer was set to.
I don't know if 1) I made an error in the W8JI mod, or if 2) my MP is
broken and
needs repair, or 3) if this is the way the MP is supposed to work with the
W8JI
mod.
Has anybody else run into this? Or has anybody else done the mod and
carefully measured the Tx waveforms to either confirm or deny what I ended
up with?

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and may there be a new rig under each
ham's
tree!
