The VRF only works on 160-20M, not below 20M. It also takes very little
pressure to activate the button.

Subject: [1000mp] FT 1000 MP FIELD VRF CONTROL

Acquired a new FT 1000MP Field received last week, it
appears there may be a problem with the VRF ( Variable Front End
Filter)
According to the manual -

 page 44 quote :

The VRF feature allows you to engage a narrow band
Pass " Preselector" filter into the receiver's RF circuit path.
The added selectivity can be a tremendous help
in minimizing potential interference from strong out of band
signals, especially in a multi-transmitter operating environment. "

To activate the VRF feature press the (VRF) button on the
shuttle jog, then turn the VRF/MEM CH knob to peak the signal
or background noise level.
When the VRF feature is engaged the Red "VRF" LED located one
the left side of the VRF/MEM CH knob will be illuminated .
End Quote

While this feature in itself may or may not be of any intrinsic
value to my operating habits do
Please note that I am unable to depress this VRF button and in
seems to be permanently stuck in a depressed
position. This may potentially cause other problems within the
internal circuitry.

I have removed the top cover to look at a possible mechanical
problem with jamming of the component light onto the enclosure on
the face of the rig, however while the VRF loosens slightly in it's
enclosure, I can not depress the button or cause it to move an any
way, nor is it readily accessible without removing the complete
face which is beyond the scope of any technical adventures I intend
to pursue.

The Red LED also does not light nor does the VRF/MEM-CH
function in the prescribed position as indicated above.
Before I ship this back, especially at this time of year I wonder
if any user have had similar problem or is there something I am
missing, operationally.

73 TIA any comments
