I wrote before that I noticed some distortion on the receiver of the Mark V
with the 70 MHz IF Modification from Inrad. This was the reason to
de-install the mod after nine months of usage.

After several months I installed the mod again and did some "research" on
several frequency bands, receiving stations with various signal strengths
and with various settings of menu 9-1. I did this over the past few weeks.

Standard setting of menu 9-1 in my Mark V is 13.

With settings below 11 I did notice distortion! The more I went below
setting 11 the more distortion, especially with strong signals. Even on 10
and 9 there was a noticeable distortion! And with setting 7 I even noticed
heavy distortion.

With setting 11 there is no distortion noticeable and the S/N-Ratio is
excellent.

I did some comparisons between the Mark V and the 1000D too.

Bottom line I suggest to listen very carefully and try various settings with
various signals on various frequencybands, when you have installed the
IF-mod from Inrad. In my case setting 11 was the optimum. Sofar I did not
notice any distortion and I am very satisfied with the mod again.

I hope this information is of some use.

Hans Remeeus.
