Todd,
For the PSK31 mode, hold the PKT button in for a longer duration, and then
select the 8-6 Menu. Move the sub knob to select EASY-SET, and then move the
main knob for PS31-U (for USB). Use the Packet jack on the back of the
rig... the microphone will be disabled. If you look at the specs for the
special PSK31 USER mode, you will see that if you were to use the DATA
Filter, it's audio passband is from 880Hz to 1120Hz... so you want to setup
your PSK software/unit taking this into consideration. When using my SCS
PTC-II unit, I set the Mark frequency to 1100Hz, and the Space to 900Hz.
Then it falls right in between... and the DATA Filter works great. I also
have all filters installed in the rig, and can also set menu 5-4 to
8.2-455... that way, when using NAR2, the filter bandwidth is 250Hz.
When I use the Pactor modes (I and II), I hit the PKT button just like you
would with USB, LSB, or AM. Then I select a Mark Frequency of 1270Hz and a
Space frequency of 1070Hz. There is more margin for error, because the DATA
Filter has a larger bandwidth (800hz to 2500Hz). Take a look at the Mark-V
brochure OR the Technical Overview for the Mark-V... that Yaesu will send you
free for the asking. I set menu 5-4 to 500H, which sets up the 2nd and 3rd
IF Filters to 500Hz (when using NAR2).
Yes, when you press the RTTY mode button, both LSB and RTTY will be lit... I
belive that also uses a dufferent jack on the back of the Mark-V? But I
could be wrong... I just use the same settings as I do for Pactor...
I wouldn't use the microphone connection. But that is my own opinion... why
keep on removing the microphone every time you want to use the digital
modes... if you don't have to???
I also noticed that they describe the SHIFT controls INCORRECTLY in the
Operator's Manual. If you need more info on that, I can send it to you.
Hope this helps. If you have any questions, just ask,
John
