The FT-1000D tested out at -36 and -42 dB (worst case) when the ARRL
tested one back in March, 1991. Compare new prices.
Someone recently opined that today's rigs are no better engineered or
built than the typical VCR. The more I see of modern radios, the more I
tend to agree.
Thanks to Ed Hare and the ARRL for all their efforts in testing new
products. If it weren't for the League and their counterparts in other
countries, there would be nothing but "urban legend" reviews.
"Hands on" owner's comments are fine, but it's great to have the
consistency of the ARRL reviews over the years, especially when
comparing radios from different eras. For those who don't like the
ARRL's methods, or reporting style, why not try starting up your own
magazine? Let's not kill the only messenger we have and let's not
forget the "amateur" in amateur radio.
