I agree. My Mark Vs receiver sounded as good as and actually better
than my FT990. My 990 had a great receiver. I could not hear any
objectional IF hiss and I did the Mod anyway. I really could NOT tell
the difference. On the other hand I usually operate SSB and seldom CW.
My Mark V has a great receiver. I have purposely stuffed myself into
weak DX pileups and had no trouble hearing anyone or working anyone
for that matter! ;+} On 6 meters with the transverter, weak signal
reception is nothing short of phenominal and I'm only using a 5el at
35'. While I don't hear everything the big gun stations hear, I hear
most of what they hear and work them. Would I buy the IF mod again?
Probably, it's inexpensive and may help someone with younger ears. ;+}
As for filters, get the IRAD 1.8s. They are NOT too tight and do NOT
ring. They are the ones to have, pile ups or noisy band ragchews!
