It does sound a bit high.  A quick check would be to tune in the same
signal on the sub receiver as on the main receiver and compare the
S-meter readings.  Menu item 9-1 controls the IF gain of only the main
receiver, so one way to set it is to adjust it so both S-meters read the
same.
