[1000mp] FT-1000MP Typical Maximum Power?

Gents

I'm an unabashed, unsophisticated user of my 1000MP.

Is there anything wrong with merely reducing the output as required
to drive a linear (in my case, an Alpha), by turning down the output
control on the front panel?

What am I missing here, except a careful reading of the manual?
(that too, is about to change, hi).
