[1000mp] FTV1000 Comments?

Not that I want it to be that way but ...

A 'good' trv for 6m is ~$450 but is only 20watts output, add the solid state
150w brick and your up to around $1000 easy and of course the Yaesu unit
mates well and has 200 watts. As to the why of this, if you are truly
interested and addicted to 6m's (like me) the performance RX wise is the
reason someone would spend that. Cerainly not to brag but I bought a mkV for
the sole purpose of using it with a trv....I have made only a handful of HF
contacts on it; and yes I do cw. If you're an avid HF type its like saying
would you spend huge bucks on a better yagi if you had the tower space etc?

I have commented before but I am using a Down East Microwave trv unit with
my MKV and the combo (with INRAD filters) is far superior than any hf plus 6
rig made. With the possible exception of the new ProII now that someone
finally listened and gave 6m ops an adjustable NB, which is essential for
city operating... time will tell.

At my station the 20w trv (which puts out a measured 22watts) drives either
a 150w brick or a 3cx800 tube which requires a max of 23 watts input drive;
a perfect combo :-)

BTW Charles, the pacific northwest area was hearing 48240 and 48260 HS video
carriers for several evenings in a row back in November peaking up to 20
over here.....its a shame you weren't over there and on the air as our cq's
went unanswered (on 6m)

Sorry to hear the Yaesu 6m unit has some difficulties but the idea is on the
mark for serious 6m ops. Perhaps the price will drop with the down turn of
the cycle....which still doesn't show any signs of giving up!!!
