Interesting Paul. I never noticed the flash on the "Wait" lamp because I
never use the antenna tuner. Looks like your correct in your assessment.

Actually I believe these thumps are the memory band edges for the 43 ATU
memory slots.  If you watch the WAIT lamp on the display you will see it
flash momentarily as you cross these frequencies.  As the user moves up and
doen the band the ATU moves from one memory setting to the next and the RX
is muted for just a fraction of a millisecond when this occurs.

|All MPs and Mark Vs have the "thump" you mention.  It occurs every 81.92
|kHz on the dial, apparently a harmonic of a digital counter in the radio.

|The first one you will hear is at 163.84 kHz (2nd harmonic) and the last
|one is at 29982.72 kHz (366th harmonic).
