I bought a 3000D five yrs ago I don't think it is anything new.

At the retail level, if you have lots of inventory to move and sales of
the product or products are stagnant, you sometimes might add a widget
(maybe something with a digital vibe) to the product, maybe add a suffix
letter (make it sound new or updated), modify the description text, and
try to move them out.

Reminds me of the 80's when a retailer that shall remain nameless who
probably got a good price on the remaining Kenwood TS-830's and optional
CW filters, installed the optional filters in each TS-830S and called it
the TS-830S Gold Edition and moved them all out quickly.
