[Yaesu] Some Yaesu FT1000MP MK5 questions

I've had 3 FT-1000MP MK5's. Two were the 200 watt version and my current one is the Field. Great radios! My first 200 Watt version, bought new jus as they came out, lost the FP-29 Power Supply after warranty expired. Yaesu would not fix it nor would they replace it. Found a new FP-29 and all was well. The FP-29 is a weak link and the proprietary integrated circuit inside is unobtanium.

They can be replaced however with two Astron supplies. One at 13.8 volts for the receiver section and one at 28 t0 30 volts for the transmitter section. You only have to be careful when you assemble the 4 pin power connector so you have the correct voltages going into the radio.

He display dimming issue does exist and Yaesu is out of parts. WA4GEG, Byron Campbell, in Tennessee has his own solution and can do that update as well as several others to make the radio even better. He has worked on all three of my radios.

SO, don't fret about buying a Mark 5. They are great radios and the power supply problem has a good work around as does the display issue.

The display goes bad , I replaced mine a couple of years ago with a led display . If you can’t find a replacement the radio is junk , entire display goes dark , 73 Sam Kf4yox , BTW I bought mine New Years ago still works fine with transverter, only other problem was that Finals failed for no reason .
