[Yaesu] Noise blanker recommendations

How ya doin George. How's life in the lightning capitol of the USA? <grin>. I forget I am subscribed to this reflector until a message comes through. I dunno why I'm still subscribed, except I'm too lazy to drop it.

I just love my 5000MP. I can often hear a pin drop on 80m in the mornings. The RX is scary quiet. Just today I switched it on and tuned to 17m, and I thought the RX was dead. Then I looked over to the patch panel and saw that it was still disconnected from the storms last week. There is virtually NO NOISE generated in the RX chain. I started working FT-8 on 20m, and in a little over 3 weeks I had WAS accomplished.

There is nothing presently out there I would consider as a replacement. There are radios with a better spec here or there..... but nothing my damaged ears could make use of.

Hope you're well. Life is grand out here in far West Texas. Take care.

John, check out the Yaesu FTdx5000. It has an awesome receiver with excellent noise reduction features. Overall very good specs.

Read the QST review of the 5000. It’s available in the reviews archive on Arrl.com.
