Hi Ken,
Does the FT-897 have a service menu like the FT-857? I'm guessing it has.
My FT-857 and those of other hams I know locally
have done some very similar things, usually associated DC power
glitches or with connecting/disconnecting
the power to a live source while connected to the rig (attaching the
power cord to a car battery for example).
This can happen with the rig on or off. Best to connect the power
cord alone first then plug it to the rig.
Go into the service menu. If the following items are set to 0 then
that's your problem:
HF1RXG HF2RXG HF3RXG etc. These should be somewhere in the range of 80 to 150.
These are adjustments done as part of a rig alignment and will vary
according to your rig.
Ideally you'd check these before there is ever a problem and record
them for future reference.
For getting receive back to going there shouldn't be any problem with
setting them back to something like 100,
although that might not be what your rig was originally set to as optimum.
There are also settings for the S meter I think. Some of the
settings that relate to the transmitter, SWR and RF amp
current protection, ALC, RF power, etc should be adjusted using the
proper test equipment and procedures.
I'm not sure if Yaesu makes the parameters for that available. If
not you may have to send it back to them
for "alignment", probably not as cheap.
Do a search online for "FT-897 service menu".
Reset won't change these settings.
Best of luck with figuring it out.
