[Yaesu] ceramic filter problem in FT897/857

I've not detected any ceramic filter problems though I did run a SSB
mechanical filter for some time in my main 857. I've since traded it off
finding not a great improvement over the ceramic filter. Going to the
mechanical filter and making it the default would be a relatively simple
work around compared to changing the soldered in ceramic filter.

I know of one 857 with a display failure and that was 4 or 5 years ago
on a radio only 2 or 3 years old. One work around for that would be to
go to software control through the CAT port where you could customize
the computer front panel to do away with the menus replacing them with
127 buttons. That work around does limit mobility however.

You might ask a radio dealer with a repair shop, like Dan at Radio City
Inc (www.radioinc.com). Give him a day or two to recover from hamfesting
and then he'll be preparing to go to another hamfest and will be a Dayton.
