[Yaesu] Fw: [OutpostPacket] Cable Wiring

I'm afraid its not that simple. The radio is not ready for RS-232
levels, its set up for TTL and data not inverted. Connection Rs-232
direct can damage the radio. You need a level converter, like a MAX232
in the circuit. There are other ways but that's the simpler one. There
are cables available already made. TTL levels are +2 to 4 volts is a
TRUE, less than 1 volt is a FALSE or Zero. RS 232 leves are -3 to -15
for a MARK or TRUE, and +3 to +15 for a SPACE or FALSE. TTL logic can be
destroyed with RS-232 levels and the inversion will prevent
communications even if the logic survives. The PC hardware won't allow
inverting the RS-232 levels, except by modifying a vintage RS-232
interface to take out the level converters and to connect directly to
TTL which is rarely done and is much harder to do with a USB to serial
dongle.
http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/links.html has detailed information on cable
sources plus the logic level converters in links. Sometimes I've found
the CAT cables cheaper than the CT39A on epay.
