That's a standard problem running with transverters too. I don't know
any details about the FT-2000, but if it sets the power with ALC many
rigs spike. You can try cutting the power by backing off on the
transmitter gain, like the microphone gain. Minimize the work ALC has to
do. In my FT-857s I found an alignment menu setting for transmitter gain
that I was able to back off (and a global reset had set to the maximum
possible gain in one of them that spiked) and prevent spikes.
Some for transverters have applied a fixed bias to the exciter ALC to
cut the power and prevent spikes.
