[Yaesu] FT-817 spotting tone volume

My FT-817 spotting tone volume seems too low, is this adjustable?

 Many times when I want to zero beat a received station I hold in the HOME key for the spotting tone, to find that its amplitude is so low in relation to the received cw signal that I cant get an audible beat note. Decreasing the rf gain helps under some conditions, but not all. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed the same issue, and if there is an adjustment?
