APRS is Automatic Position Reporting System, its a packet based mode using a
tracker and a GPS receiver, lots of info on it on the net, i actually run a
Digipeater and an Igate to support this.

No mic here either, i bought this radio used with nothing in the way of
accessories.

Yes, i know how to expand the TX/RX on this radio from the info on mods.dk,
but unfortunately they make NO mention of how a radio is configured on those
jumpers from the factory. It says to remove 2, and install 1 and 3, they
are actually jumper pads that you put a dab of solder on to make the
connection. I thought it would be logical therefore to remove 1 and 3 and
replace 2, but that didn't bring it back, it put it in some weird euro split
that only let the radio transmit and receive 144-146Mhz. I found that if i
put 1 and 2 on i could get 144-148Mhz transmit and receive, and if i put 1,
2, 3 on i could get 140-164 receive, and 140-148 transmit. I tried 2 and 3
and i got 140-164 transmit and receive. I just can't get it back to the
factory setting.

The info on page 37 regarding packet doesn't do me any good, i already have
it working for APRS, i just can't get the bandsplits back where they should
be.

ARS = Automatic Repeater Split

However, following the instructions on page 15 doesn't work, and i have had
these radios in the past, my very first radio i owned upon entering the
hobby was a 2400, and i used to have a 2500 also, so i am familiar with the
settings. You hit F/W and the RPT and then your supposed to tap F/W again
to get the A symbol in the box, this enables the Automatic split. However
it doesn't work, the split defaults to 0.000Mhz as well. This is because
the bandsplits in the radio are not setup correctly, i encountered this on a
FT-2800M that someone modified and i had to return to stock, luckily i own a
2800 that has never been tampered with so i was able to use it as a
reference to fix that radio.

If you have a 2400 or 2500 that has never been modified would they be
willing to take the five minutes to remove the two front panel screws and
tilt the face down and tell me what jumper pads have solder across them?
When you flip the front face downward the solder pads are on the top left,
about a 1/4 of the width from the left hand side in a perfect row. The left
hand end is jumper 1.

Scott

  Scott
I'm totally clueless about APRS and the reference to jumpers.
I noted your message because I need a mic for that unit and reading
further
find there is more to this radio than I knew.

I also suspected that you might know of someone with a MH 27 mic. or
a MH 36C. Got two units and only one mic.

Info there is note on http://www.mods.dk re FT2400 to expand the TRX
frequency range. This might be of help as there is a picture of the front
panel with reference to JP1,2,& 3. This might be what you need to kill the
out of band capability.
My manual mentions none of this. There is a bit on page 37 re. packet
radio
that might add to the solution.
Also on page 35 there is info on resetting the CPU.

What's ARS ? automatic repeater split? ? Page 15 references changing that
  system.

I bought a used FT-2400H to use for APRS and as a spare radio, i know
from the manual and from having owned one of these years past that the
jumpers are out of whack, first of all its modified for out of band
transmit, i want to kill that, and two its Automatic Repeater Split won't
turn on and the split is defaulted to 0.000 so i know its because of the
jumpers.

Problem is i can't find ANYWHERE online showing what the damn stock
config of those six jumpers should be for the US version.

    RX should be 140-174
    TX should be 144-148

I can't get it to do those with also having the ARS able to turn on. I
soldered and desoldered the jumpers in at least 100 configurations, i can't
get it to do it, i even had it displaying UHF frequencies at one time...

    Anyone know??

    73,

    Scott
