[Yaesu] max power output

I have a 1000MP mk 5 I operate on AM and run it with a ~20 watt
carrier; this is the one with the 200 w pep PA. It handles 20 w. no
problem 30 or 40 is pushing it.

Any time you get into any kind of key down mode, the % of peak power
you can run is only 1/3 of it. The other 1/3 to be considered is
time, unless you have a PA that is so beefy (think broadcast
transmitter) that it can run in continuous service. Most ham store-
bought stuff isn't there. an exciter that could do 50 w. key down all
day would probably have to have a PA rated at 400 w. pep, or a heck of
a lot of fan. That's the other 1/3 to consider, the coolnig. For
you, with the FT2K which not being the D is 100 w., you might get away
with 20-25 w. for 10 minutes, beyond that and I'd start considering a
way to blast more air through the heat sink fins.
