[Yaesu] FT290RII opinions

Hi John,

I had one with the 25 watt module and battery pack option for several years.
I used it for backpacking QRP VHF contest operations from the Catskills
Mountains and on the Appalachian Trail using a Tonna F9FT 9 element yagi. It
worked very well though I used headphones to keep the nature sounds out. The
only thing I didn't like was the tuning had detents presumably to keep it
from inadvertently moving while mobile but otherwise it performed nicely.

The display was large enough to be readable and with the optional tone unit
it was functional though I think it took manual setting with dip switches to
change tones (I may be wrong about that).

Battery life was pretty good too as I recall.

I am wondering if anyone on the list has used a Yaesu FT290RII 2 meter all
mode rig? If so, how do they operate overall? How is their performance
compared to a Kenwood TR9130 or TR751A?

Any good or bad things about them?
