Hi all,
So I'm still trying to wrap my head around the FT2k.

As you may or may not recall, I won one at the Rochester, MN hamfest. I've 
been using it exclusively since, following about a year with my IC-756 PRO 
III.

My initial impressions are: it seems to do everything I want to do as well 
as or even better than the PRO III.

I would give it a slight edge over the ICOM, and here's why: the FT2k just 
SOUNDS more natural. It seems to do the selectivity thing as well as or even 
better than the P3, yet still sounds natural. I remember my initial 
impressions of the P3: really selective, really sensitive, but very 
"digital" in sound. The FT 2k just sounds more like the PTO and VFO radios 
of my youth. (Is that a good thing?)

Now, I'm the first one to admit that those who prefer the "warmth" of analog 
audio playback (ie. vinyl) over CD do so because of the LIMITATIONS of vinyl 
playback (ie. distortion). But what seems to be, gloriously, missing from 
the FT2K is some of the artifacts from the DSP of the IC756PIII that don't 
appear to completely overcome the limitiations of the P2 and P series, 
namely, the impact of noise coming through the NB and the 5-volt rail. (In 
other words, I still hear clicks from close-in-but-outside-passband stations 
that I don't get on the FT2k.)

All this being said, I must say that I respect the opinion of one Icom fan, 
(Adam, you know who you are), who was not impressed with the FT2K. Adam has 
a TON of experience in this comparo and it is hard to discount.

As you can imagine, I'm just trying to wrap my head around several issues, 
not the least of which is this: with an FT2k, an IC-756P3 and a Kenwood 
TS-850SAT loaded with filters, which do I try to sell??? My gut says that 
regardless of the FT2k-756p3 fight, the Kenwood is on the way out.

All opinions welcome. Apologies if direct response isn't forthcoming.
