[Yaesu] FW: Inquiry: Tech Support

 I sent an inquiry to Yaesu concerning the lack of operation of the NB on
the FM mode of my 857D and also the poor performance of audio under high
SWR, especially AM mode...here's what I got back!

Christopher, I understand that your Motorola and other commercial gear work
differently then the FT-857D.  The radio performs according to our engineer
specification and the NB does work on FM.  Furthermore the radio was
designed to work in AM mode but with all modern Ham transceivers they all
have different issues with audio on AM mode some work better then others.
The older boat anchor radio had superb AM transmitters and/or transceivers
and here in lies the problem the YAESU FT-857D and other modern radio where
not optimized to operate on AM modes they are optimized for SSB/CW. At the
moment there are no modifications available for the perceived audio problem
with AM mode for the FT-857D. The F-100D is a different radio then the
FT-867D.
