[Yaesu] Deaf VX-3

A question to other owners of the VX-3 handheld. Before I send my unit back 
to Yaesu,  have other users had problems with receiver being deaf. I have 
tried different antennas and it does not seem to help. I have noticed that 
the background audio seems much louder than the transmitted audio. It seems 
just as deaf at the VHF bands as the AM or FM band. I have tried different 
combinations of antenna settings but no luck. Any thoughts would be great. I 
have a VX-5 and VX-6 and they are great handhelds. The VX-3 is the
