Jan,
I have a 9000D model....and I agree with Keith, it is a great
radio...especially on 80 and 160...
As for contesting, I am a bit disappointed....the CAT control of the 9000
series is a bit slow...commands to the radio have to have 250ms delays
interspersed with the action commands in order to allow the 9000 to catch
up....to set split, mode and frequency takes the 9000 about 1.5 to 2 seconds
to accomplish...Do this a few hundred times during a contest and you have a
bunch of delay....
If you can live with that, the rig is truly state of the art....

Not the MP, but I have two D models which are basically the same but with
200 rather than 400 watts. These radios are NOT easy to learn to use
properly to get their best performance. I felt comfortable operating after
about 6 months of reading the manual over and over again. Now I am
convinced these are the best rigs ever.
