[Yaesu] FT-301 display

Mike,
The digital readout on that rig also  uses the AF board and the RF board.
If you notice any reduction on 40 meters  or 15 meters there is a pot that 
controls the display.
It can freeze the  display or make it go crazy as if you were turning the VFO 
knob.
Use a  frequency counter.
If the frequency is changing when you turn the VFO then I  doubt the problem 
is on the display board.
Check the AF and the RF board and  look for those 2 pots.
It's been 15 years since I fixed mine up and I just  can't remember what was 
in the service manual but remember having to adjust  those pots and their very 
sensitive
