[Yaesu] FT 990

I bought mine used what seems a lifetime ago. It has run flawlessly. 
I remember my first impression was how quiet it sounded. You 
definitely want to add the 2 narrow filters if it doesn't already 
have it. The controls are easy -- no annoying menus to deal with.

As for DX -- I have all but 2, but I think an amp is more important 
than the rig. Working split is simple, though.

I read recently that Yaesu no longer provides service for the 990 -- 
I think the CPU is discontinued. OTOH, all the innards are on drop-in 
boards. Mine has never needed service, although I may have replaced 
the dial lamp. I also acquired a service manual from an SK's estate 
but never opened it up.

In three words -- I LOVE MINE.
