You don't need the programming software and cable to program the radio, its
front panel programmable like every other ham radio out there.
However, if you do want to program it with the computer as its easier to
manage the memories and make large changes then don't get the RT software
that Yaesu sells, its difficult to use and not very reliable. I use a
software package called FTB8800 and its superior to anything else available.

There is links on his site with info on building a programming cable if you
want, otherwise they are available from other sources, such as eBay.
The seperation kit allows you to mount the control head seperately from the
radio. For example putting the body of the radio under a seat and just have
the control head mounted up on the vehicles dash.
The programming cables available connect to the mini din connector on the
back of the radio, also used as the packet jack for TNC connections.

Scott
PS: I tried to send a reply off list but got some stupid autoreply saying i
was rejected by some idiotic spam filter. When i clicked on the link
provided to request i be added as a safe sender it sent me to a webpage that
first claimed you didn't exist, and then died to a 404 error on the next
click.
