Doc,
The MH-36 is a more limited microphone with a few programmable buttons on
it.
The MH-59 is a fully featured microphone, but can be prone to RF getting
into your audio. When I'm operating portable, I use the MH-36 since the
antenna tends to be in the near field. I like the MH-59, but I don't take
chances and if I have space in my pack, I'll bring it and use it but have
the MH-36 as a backup.
I just ran across this article on fixing the RF issue.

Subject: [Yaesu] Which DTMF Mic? MH-36 or MH-59?
I was looking for a remote control/DTMF mic for my
FT-897D.
I noticed that Universal Radio shows only the MH-36
with their FT-897D and the MH-59 with their FT-857D.
Does the MH-36 offer the same features as the
MH-59? Prices are similar, $59. vs $62.
Is there a good reason to prefer the MH-36 or
the MH-59 with the 897D?
Sure appreciate any informed advice! :-)
