[Yaesu] FT-890 Frequency Jump

Has anyone on the list had a problem with the FT-890 transmit frequency erratically jumping around plus or minus a few KHz?  Other than the PLL circuitry, does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy the problem?  The transceiver belongs to an 89 year old guy who cannot afford a professional repair job and its subsequent shipping costs.   Any brainstormed ideas would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.
