[Yaesu] Good replacement antenna

Unfortunately, for the 2 meter band you really need an
antenna that is a little over 19 inches long. Those 6
inch antennas are typically 10 dB down from a quater
wave (i.e. 5 watts output radiates like 0.5 watts
output).

Now it is quite possible to make an efficient antenna
from about a 19.5 inch of stranded insulated hookup
wire soldered to the center pin of the appropriate
connector. This antenna can "dangle" yet will be much
more efficient than any "rubber ducky" type. Also, it
will have about a 3 dBd gain over a quater-wave on the
440 MHz band.

Motorola used to have this type of antenna available
for their commercial portables and they worked very
well.

Very cheap to make, doesn't "poke" like the rigid
antennas, and works very well.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good replacement
for a Yaesu VX HT? I have a VX2R and I think it
suffers from the same problem that the VX5R and VX7R
does-you need an HT antenna with a long center pin. I
am looking for a reasonable sized antenna, like 6 or 7
inches, not something ridiculous like 18 inches long.
