That's interesting. I thought the FT1000D would hold that title. I remember
the QST review blasted the FT980 for having a noisy synthesizer. Can anyone
else on the list confirm that the FT980 is really that good.

My biggest complaint with the FT1000MP was that you couldn't control the
memory keyer from the front panel. What a stupid design. I can even do
that with my FT100D. My second biggest complaint was that you had to go
into the menus to change the preamp type and turn off the subreceiver CW
filter.

I had a Triton IV which was a fine but very simple rig. Good CW

ALways hear great things about this rig. Going to have to take that final
step and get one. I keep thinking of it, but back out at the end. Plus you
can do dual receive if you have the external VFO.

And the best radio depends on what you need it to do. My FT100D works much
better on 2 meters and satellites than a FT1000MP would. And the entire
system is also important. A FT840 connected to a 3 element steppir yagi at
70 feet will work better than a FTDX9000MP connected to a mobile whip. And
you will have money left over.

I have had a couple of those. They are nice rigs.
