[Yaesu] Mechanical vs. Crystal filters

Please clarify ...

Is the consensus that, for example, in a Yaesu
FT-897D one were to remove the "Collins" mechanical
filters and replace them with Inrad crystal filters
one would see a discernible difference?

Would the difference be worth the hassle?

Or is the difference only discernible in the lab?
