John:

You might be able to find an EDC-12 power supply/charger in some ham stores.
The contains, Among other things, a surge protector to protect the battery &
radio
from all the nasty spikes that run around in a motor vehicle.

Also, Maha makes a 120 VAC charger that works great.

Subject: [Yaesu] FT51 question

I just picked up a Yaesu FT51 off of ebay, but the
listing says it doesn't come with a charger. Is it
possible to run the FT51 directly off of 12 volts
using a cigarette lighter or 12 volt PS? What kind of
cord is needed for this-just a regular 2 wire cord
that plugs into the HT? The manual was really vague
on this area. The AES catalog from 1996 lists a
EDC-12 power adaptor for this HT.
