No warranty on amateur gear is transferrable as far as i know!
I checked the warranty card on some of my recent purchases, VX-7R, FT-8800R,
FT-8900R, and on ALL of them the second item under Limitations of Warranty
is this:
B. The Limited Warranty extends only to the original retail purchaser, and
shall not be valid or enforceable unless such original purchaser fully
completes, signs, and mails to VERTEX STANDARD within ten (10) days from the
date of such original purchase at retail, the Owner's Warranty Registration
Card included with this product.
I would like to further not that Yaesu/Vertex is not the only one that
practices this. I have also reviewed warranty cards for various Icom and
Kenwood products and that same holds true. Though worded different from
each company the end result is the same, original purchaser only. I also
see this statement included in the warranty on various other products i have
in my home, televisions, microwave, refrigerator, dvd player.. etc.
It's the standard of the industry, there is no guarantee that the original
owner is selling a 100% functional product, what if they bought it and
damaged it in such a way that the warranty would not cover the repairs, but
then sold it to someone else, the company and current owner have no way to
prove what happened, etc. It's in the companies best interest to only honor
the warranty for the original owner.
Try sending something in for repair though, that's where the difference is,
the ham products division of those companies treat you a lot better on a
repair than most consumer electronics companies i have dealt with.

Scott
