Hi Fern,
I have been using a VL-1000 with Icom exciters for 7 years, and it is still
working flawlessly. I do not stack the PSU and RF cabinets, as separating
them assures better cooling. You can see my station configuration here:

There is a detailed Quadra page on my site:

Another resource is http://www.va3cr.net/
I have e-mailed you copies of two VL-1000 reviews. The service manual is not
on-line, but you can order it from Yaesu USA at a cost of about USD 25.
If your unit is accompanied by they operating manual, the instructions for
connecting the VL-1000 to the FT-1000D are in that manual. You will need to
connect RF drive, PTT, ALC, Band Data 1 (4-bit band data code) and Band Data
2 (to allow the VL-1000 to key the exciter for bandswitching and tuning).
The FT-1000D output should be set to 75W.
If you do not have the operating manual, I can scan and e-mail you the
required pages.

Subject: [Yaesu] re Vl-1000 quadra amp
I would like to correspond with anyone who has used the Yaesu Quadra
VL-1000 hf amplifier especially with the FT-1000D. I'm also wondering about
whether they rf deck can be stacked with the power supply (except that the
power supply has a smaller foot print than the rf deck). Is a service manual
available from Yaesu for that amplifier?
73 & thanks from Fern
