[Yaesu] FT-8500 question

I've got a FT-8500 dual bander that I have a question about. Besides 
being one of the most difficult radios I have ever attempted to program, 
I can't figure out how to get the radio to access more than one of the 5 
banks of 10 memories per band. As I start programming the second bank of 
10 it won't go back to the first. I can delete the second bank and, 
voila, I am back to the first bank. I've read the manual but can find no 
reference to this. I may be overlooking something obvious. Can anybody 
tell me what that might be?
