[Yaesu] Help PSE FT-840

Greetings to the list....

I'm trying to help a pal with his FT-840, but have no manuals or schematics at the moment.

The problem begins after transmitting for a while.  The meter lights go out, and the frequency display starts to flash.  Soon after the flashing starts, the entire rig goes dead.  It can be re-powered up after a short delay.

Any ideas of where to start while I wait for a service manual ?  I've heard of an off/on power switch fix ?
