[Yaesu] FT-101EX Problem

Well, I lost the message but I think I remember the question.

Unfortunately, because most of the circuitry in the FT-101 is
shared between the tx and rx functions, even a simple problem that
affects both, can be a chore to pin down to the level of 'replace this
part.'

Probably the best approach is to find a friend with a working FT-
101E-series and interchange circuit boards until you get yours
working. Then -- assuming there's nothing obvious on the bad
board -- find a replacement board. They're a staple on EBay,
although most are not guaranteed, so you might be exchanging
one problem for another.

Start your substitution program with the board that has the RF amp
as it is a frequent source of problems of this type. *Check board
numbers* before doing an interchange; some of the boards
changed during the life of this model and boards with different
numbers may not be interchangable. There's an excellent website
(a Google search for 'Yaesu ft-101 web site' should find it) that has
board/model/serial number info.

Board extenders were available for these sets but where you'd find
them I don't know. And going that route requires considerable
familarity with solid state troubleshooting technique.
