Are you sure that the rotor box is bad? Often the
6-pin Jones type plug on the back of the control box
develops problems with the actual connections. You
need to take a pair of needle nose pliers and slightly
rotate the pins (about 10 degrees or so) and reinsert
the plug in the socket. That takes care of many of
the problems with the Yaesu G-1000 series rotors.
Also, have you replaced the motor starting capacitor?
Those go bad in rotor control boxes all the time. You
can get a much better replacement than the original
(higher voltage rating at same capacitance) from W. W.
Grainger for about 20% of the price that you will pay
for one from Yaesu or other rotor repair place. You
will have to solder on wire leads since the motor
starting capacitors that are used commercially
normally have terminals for "push on" connectors.
However, they are "tinned" and you can easily solder
on wires to make the connections in the rotor control
box.
Nine times out of ten if there is a problem in the
control box it is the starting capacitor. I have an
old CDE AR-22 that I bought used about 45 years ago
that has gone through 5 or 6 starting capacitors since
I have owned it. Just put a new one in 3 or 4 months
ago and it is again "going strong". Replaced the
starting capacitor in my old Ham II several times
before strong winds finally tore it up so bad that it
couldn't be repaired economically. Went out and
bought a Yaesu G1000SDX to replace it.

Thanks to all that responded to me. I had a nice long
chat with Norm via Norm's Rotors, but he doesn't work
on Yaesu. He told me that alot of time you find that
the circuit boards are bad. He also told me some
horror stories about Yaesu Service, and hams having to
wait as high as 3 months to get it returned to them.
I wrote Yaesu Tech about 4 days ago, and they have yet
to respond. Being that they changed the model from and
SDX to a DXA, they don't usually work on obsolite
models. I believe I will go back to a Ham IV.
