[Yaesu] FT-7800R dualbander volume

My FT-7800R dualbander volume control knob moves from
7 o'clock to 5 o'clock positions. Note this:

1. No sound at 7 o'clock (NORMAL).
2. Sound begins to be heard at 8 o'clock (OK there).
3. Sound increases from 8 to 11 o'clock (Spread very
confined).
4. No further increase in sound volume from 11 - 5
o'clock.

Volume range from 8 - 11 o'clock is too compressed. Is
this a quirk of this rig or a problem with my radio?
