[Yaesu] FT 1000 MKV field

Is it common for the display to take a few seconds to come up on this radio after being off overnight? Also what is the common preferred setup on the filters. The manual is of little help. I want to see a difference between normal and narrow 1. Please indulge my ignorance still learning the radio.
