Hi John,
Some might think this is a trivial request. Speaker are all alike, right! Wrong! I recently bought 2 computers from Gateway. They came with identical very fansy looking speakers with sub-woofer and control head. Accourding to there website they sell separately for $100 and they are worthless. They are very poorly shielded. I put torroid RFI chokes on both ends of all of the cabling, power, I/O and speaker and they collected and amplified RF. I would up throwing both in the garbage. So be very careful with your choice.
I cannot recommend very small speakers but I did buy a pair of Altec Lansing speakers that are about 8 inches high by 4 inches wide. They have a volume control and a headphone jack and are impervious to RF in my shack. I also bought a pair of Klipsch speakers for the wife that included a subwoofer that are also impervious to RF. Both sets of speakers are within 6 feet of my transmitter.
You know I even tried to use the Gateway speakers. with RFI chokes still attached, in another room far from my shack as TV speakers and my wife jumped out of her chair the first time I transmitted.
