[Yaesu] FT100 and grounding mod

I just purchased a used FT100 (non D model) from a ham
dealer to use for VHF/UHF work. Having had a couple
of FT100D models before, I am happy to be back in the
FT100 family, as I found that the Icom 706MKIIG was
kind of lacking compared to the Yaesu. But I also
know almost all about the grounding mod required for
the FT100 series.
So am I correct in assuming that all FT100 non D
models will need to improved grounding mod? I had an
early D model once that didn't have it done. Or is it
possible that some of the later plain FT100 models
made it out of the factory with the updated grounding?
If so, what serial numbers would probably need this
done?
And if I need to have the grounding mod done, can
anyone suggest a good shop (other than the Yaesu
factory) who has experience doing these things? I
like Yaesu factory service, but they do seem a little
high priced at times, and sometimes will have a long
turn around time.
