Jim,
This means the synthesizer is not locking in.
Most common cause has been the 60.77 mhz crystal oscillator. You might be
able to tweak it by adjusting T-2009. You can remove the bottom cover and
see the Crystal and transformer near the tin can. Make a very slight
adjustment inions direction or the other until the display comes on. Then
you can turn the radio off and back on and leave the adjustment where the
display will always come back on when you turn the power on. Sometimes this
will work, but ultimate fix is probably replacement of the crystal.
I had the same problem and mine has been working about 2 years since I
tweaked the transformer.
