It probably won't work well at all.

Just get a BNC and a quarter-wave length of stiff wire.  I know the supplied part is not that long (I'm not in the same 
country as mine at the moment - I check at Christmas if you haven't resolved it) but that may be a compromise between 
efficiency and practicallity.

I just got a yaesu FT-690R II rig, but didn't get the BNC Antenna for it - they didn't have it - and I'm in need of one - or 
some ideas for a replacement -- 
I have an Icom tri-band radio, and did wonder if I could buy an adaptor (SMC to BNC) and use that antenna on it - but it is 
very small and I wasn't sure how well it would work. 
Anyone with some ideas - or an antenna please let me know - thanks -
