[Yaesu] External speaker question for FT100D

WIll the external speaker jack on the FT100D handle a 3 conductor speaker plug OK, or should it only be 2 conductor?  I am thinking about hooking up a set of powered computer speakers to my FT100D to use for an external speaker.  Has anyone else tried this with success?
