[Yaesu] FC-40

Hi Folks!
A friend of mine is considering an FC-40 to connect to his 35ft random wire
antenna.
I'm just checking to see if the FC-40 will tune his antenna.
It works OK with an MFJ Travel Tuner, he is of an age where an autotuner
would be of great help to him when he gets on the air.

This random wire going out his enclosed balcony window, across the front of
the ledge, then it angles back in free space to a anchor location next to a
window. The diagram below is a crude sketch. The angle is much too severe
in the sketch.

There are also counterpoises running inside the apartment perpendicular to
the face of the balcony. They are grounded to the copper water pipes in the
kitchen and the living room hot water baseboard feed lines.

Subject: [Yaesu] FT100D-pretty impressive

I have been running my new acquired FT100D in the 160 contest this weekend.
It is actually the third FT100D I have owned in my ham career, and I am
still impressed with this radio. No signs of receiver overloading during
the 160 contest, although my antenna isn't anything to write home about on
that band. Still, I am seeing S9 +20 signals, which means really loud on
the FT100D s meter.
It is still funny to be running the top band on such a little rig.

This may not be a rig for the top level contester, but it is definitely a
contesting rig for the rest of us. Anyone else fell this way about the
FT100D also?
